The Department of National Defense (DND), convened the Ad Hoc ASEAN Defense Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM)-Plus Working Group (WG) on June 9, 2026, via video conference, marking the third assembly of the ADSOM-Plus WG under the Philippines’ ASEAN 2026 Chairship.
Advancing work from the May 20 meeting, the ADSOM-Plus WG focused on the progress of ASEAN defense cooperation for regional stability and security, particularly on the significant role of the youth in peace and security.
ASEAN Member States and Plus Countries also reviewed updates on the next three-year cycle of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)-Plus Experts’ Working Group (EWG) Co-Chairship covering the period 2027-2030 and other upcoming ASEAN defense engagements.
The meeting was presided over by Director Faysaleyyah P. Abdullah of the Office for International Affairs on behalf of Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Marita I. Yoro, who serves as ADSOM WG Chair.
The ADSOM-Plus WG meeting underscored the commitment of ASEAN in advancing strategic and practical cooperation with partners to address defense and security challenges across the region.
