Medalists at the 3rd Asian Youth Games received their cash incentives on Monday at the PSC House in Manila.
PSC chairperson Patrick Gregorio led the awarding of cash incentives to 24 athletes and 20 coaches as well, who were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the multi-sports tournament held last year in Manama, Bahrain
Gold medalists received P500,000 each, silver medalists got P250,000 each, and bronze medalists took home P100,000 each.
Coaches, meanwhile, got 50% of the amount of what their athletes received.
This is the first time the PSC has incentivized the performance of athletes in the youth level, with Gregorio emphasizing that the incentives will serve as added motivation for the athletes to continue striving and pursuing their dreams.
“Whether we give you 5 pesos, 5,000 pesos, 50,000 pesos, 500,000 pesos, 5 million, or 50 million pesos, the heart and the purpose is the same. Always be proud of serving the country — that is the greatest reward. No matter the amount, keep that with you. You carry our pride and honor,” said Gregorio.
Team Philippines won seven golds, seven silvers, and 10 bronzes to finish 12th in the 45-nation tournament – the country’s best showing so far in the Asian Youth Games.
