Filipino pole vault star EJ Obiena captured his second consecutive gold medal after setting a new meet record at the Raiffeisen Austrian Open Eisenstadt in Eisenstadt, Austria.
Obiena cleared 5.75 meters on his third attempt and erased the previous tournament of record of 5.74 meters set by USA’s Austin Miller in 2024.
He easily made 5.45 meters before needing three tries to clear 5.65 meters.
Owen Heard of Great Britain and Czechia’s Dan Barta finished second and third, respectively. Heard claimed the silver via countback after he and Barta both cleared 5.55 meters.
Early this week, the 30-year old Obiena won gold in the Czesław Cybulski Memorial in Poland – his first victory in outdoor competition this year.
Obiena will next compete at the Fly Athens meet in Greece on July 5.
