Nakakadagdag pa sa tensyon sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas ang ginawa nitong pag-deklara kay Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro bilang persona non grata.
“It’s very unhelpful, in my view… It does not move the discussion between the Philippines and China regarding the territorial conflicts that we have. It does not move that process forward in any way.” —Pangulong Marcos Jr.
Paliwanag ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa halip kasi na umuusad pasulong ang paguusap ng Beijing at Maynila, sa mga isyu sa West Philippine Sea (WPS), ang nangyayari, nababawasan pa ang limitado nang komunikasyon ng dalawang bansa.
“It does not make it easier. It does not lessen the risk of a mistake or some kind of skirmish that could grow into something more. Or even I’m moving forward trying to resolve this issue so it’s just not helpful.” —Pangulong Marcos Jr.
Bagamat prerogative aniya ng China na gawin ang anomang naisin nito, hindi pa rin maikakaila na dumadagdag sa tensyon ang deklarasyon ito, kabaliktaran ng kapayapaan na nais at patuloy na isinusulong ng Pilipinas.
“Of course, it’s China’s prerogative to do whatever it is they please but in the largest scheme of things in my view it raises the level of tension rather than lessens which is always what we want and that’s why we continue to have open lines of communications with Beijing.” —Pangulong Marcos Jr.
Sabi ni Pangulong Marcos Jr, pagputol sa isang linya ng komunikasyon, lalo na ang komunikasyon sa pamamagitan ng defense ministries, walang maitutulong sa mga hakbang na ipinatutupad para mapababa ang tensyon sa WPS, at upang maiwasan na ang mga insidente na posibleng magdulot sa mas malalang sitwasyon sa rehiyon.
“Cutting off another line of communication, which is through our defense ministries, I do not see how it will help that process that we’re trying to achieve to manage the tensions in the West Philippine Sea to lessen the likelihood of something happening that will be a trigger for something worse.” —Pangulong Marcos Jr.
