Samantha Kyle Catantan will be back in the piste in the World Fencing Championships for the first time after four years.
The 24-year-old Filipina last competed in the world competition in 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, where she ranked 42nd overall in women’s foil. She missed the 2023 edition due to an ACL injury and the 2025 event after re-tearing her ACL.
Fully recovered, Sam will now headline the country’s 24-member squad, which will see action starting July 22 until July 30.
Joining her in women’s foil are younger sisters Jannah and Sophia, as well as Marina Carbonell.
Meanwhile, the men’s foil team is comprised of Shawn Nicollei Felipe, Nathaniel Perez, Louis Shoemaker and Sammuel Tranquilan, while the women’s epee team is composed of Hanniel Abella, Ivy Claire Dinoy, Juliana Gomez and Alexa Larrazabal.
In addition, Queen Denise Dalmacio, Kaikaku Dela Serna, Jylyn Nicanor and Arianna Tiu make up the women’s sabre team; Jian Miguel Bautista, Lee Ergina, Noelito Jose and Sean Lauron will represent the country in men’s epee; and the quartet of Christian Anthony Concepcion, Christian Jhester Concepcion, Khiane Felipe and Eunice Villanueva are entered in men’s sabre.
Men’s foil and women’s epee is scheduled to open on July 22, followed by women’s sabre and men’s epee on Thursday. The individual competition continues on July 24 with the men’s sabre and women’s foil events. Team events, on the other hand, will begin on July 28.
The FIE Hong Kong World Championships 2026 will bring together more than 1,400 athletes from 114 nations, making it one of the sport’s biggest international competitions.
