Praj dela Cruz and Joaquin Torres set new Philippine speed climbing records at the IFSC World Youth Championships in Arco, Italy.
The 15-year old Dela Cruz actually reset the women’s mark twice, clocking 9.169 seconds before improving to 8.982 seconds in the U17 competition.
She eclipsed her previous best of 9.390 seconds, set at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
Dela Cruz, however, finished 24th and missed the top 16 cutoff for the next round.
She also competed in the lead event and ranked 52nd overall and is also entered in the bouldering discipline.
Meanwhile, Torres rewrote the national men’s record after clocking 5.97 seconds in the U19 category, eclipsing the previous national record of 6.08 seconds by John Forones at the Asian Beach Games.
He ended up 23rd overall.
In other results, Vans Gasapo placed 51st in men’s U17 speed climbing while Gianna Quintela ranked 92nd in the women’s U17 lead event.
