Gilas Women will not make it to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics but exited the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament with heads held high after a 79-75 win over Senegal at the Arena Astros in Guadalajara, Mexico early Friday morning.
The Philippines ended up third in Group B with a 1-2 record behind Canada and host Mexico, which both advanced to the semifinals after going 2-0.
Senegal went winless in three games.
Gilas Women unleashed a 15-0 run to overhaul a 46-50 deficit into a comfortable 61-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Kacey Dela Rosa scattered nine of his 16 points in the fourth period to protect the nationals from another collapse like when they blew a 15-point lead against Mexico.
Vanessa De Jesus nailed four three-pointers while Sophia Dignadice shot seven from the field to also finish with 16 markers apiece.
Cierra Dillard led Senegal with 25 points.
Gilas Women will now prepare for the Asian Games next month.
