Filipina tennis star Alex Eala achieved a new career-best ranking at no.18 in the latest list released by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on Monday.
The 21-year old Filipina improved two notches from her previous best of no.20 with 2,281 total points, thanks to her latest performance in the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open, where she reached the third round before losing to USA’s Amanda Anisimova.
The latest ranking is expected to give Eala the much-needed confidence ahead of her US Open main draw campaign.
Eala will also play in mixed doubles at Flushing Meadows with world no.4 Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada beginning tomorrow against husband and wife Gael Monfils of France and Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the Round of 16.
