Ernest John “EJ” Obiena missed the podium for a second straight time after finishing seventh at the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, a Wanda Diamond League meeting, held Sunday in Chorzów, Poland.
Obiena cleared 5.80 meters in just one attempt but failed to clear 5.90 meters.
World no.1 Armand Duplantis of Sweden won the event after clearing 6.20 meters, followed by Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, who both cleared 6.00 meters, in second and third, respectively.
Just last week, the 30-year old Olympian pole vaulter ended up sixth in Lausanne that ended a string of three consecutive gold medal wins.
Ahead of his title defense in the 2026 Asian Games next month, Obiena’s results since early July have been encouraging as he has gone at least 5.80 meters in seven out of eight tournaments, including a season best 5.91 meters in Poland.
