Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 Women are crowned champions of the Asia SEA Conference of the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League, Sunday in Petaling Jaya Malaysia.
The Gilas Women quintet of Amyah Espanol, Kennan Elizabeth Ka, Victoria Pasilang, Marielle Vingno and Jamanah Meniano won Stops 1, 3, and 6, to claim the overall title and secured a spot in the FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup in the process.
The Pinay dribblers capped their impressive stint with a come-from-behind 17-15 triumph against Chinese Taipei in Stop 6 finals, giving them 100 points to edge out their rivals, 510-480, in the conference standings.
Trailing 11-15 with 49 seconds left in the game and the 3×3 World Cup ticket on the line, Espanol went berserk, delivering all Gilas Women’s final six points to clinch the victory that sealed the Philippines’ stint in the 3×3 world showpiece next month in Wuhan, China.
Meantime, the Gilas 3×3 Men finished second overall behind overall titlist New Zealand.
The team composed of Manuel Luis Pablo, Andrew Victor Bongo, David Andrei Dungo, Vlair LingoLingo, Rhyle Richard Melencio and Arien Shawn Tuano amassed 460 total points, highlighted by their Stop 3 victory.
The FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup is set from September 15-19, with the Philippines parading two teams in the tournament for the first time, as Gilas U21 Men also booked a spot after emerging as champions in their tournament last month.
