Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion was named Sports Tourism Personality of the Year at the 7th Sports Tourism Awards, held Monday at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
According to the award body, Carrion has played a pivotal role in putting Philippine gymnastics on the global stage, including her contribution to Carlos Edriel Yulo’s historic double-gold medal triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She also led the country’s successful hosting of major international gymnastics events. In November 2025, the Philippines staged the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, welcoming nearly 1,000 young gymnasts from 79 countries. It marked the first time the Philippines hosted a FIG World Championships.
This year, GAP hosted the 10th Senior Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tagaytay City from August 5 to 7, bringing close to 400 gymnasts from 12 countries to the Tagaytay City Velodrome.
“We really showed what Filipino hospitality does. Thank you very much,” said Carrion.
Beyond sports, Carrion has established an extensive track record in Philippine public administration and tourism. She served as Undersecretary for Sports and Wellness at the Department of Tourism (DOT) from 2003 to 2010, previously led the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board as President and CEO, and headed the Corregidor Foundation, Inc.
