Alex Eala has climbed to a career-high No. 16 in the WTA live rankings following her impressive first-round victory at the US Open in New York.
The world no. 18 Filipina tennis sensation, moved up two spots after cruising past American qualifier Mary Stoiana in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, on Wednesday morning, Manila time.
Eala has also secured $190,000, or approximately ₱11.9 million, for advancing to the second round.
Eala will look to avenge her previous loss against world No. 46 Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine when they meet in the Round of 64.
Oliynykova defeated Eala in their first meeting last May, winning their third-round matchup at the Strasbourg Open in France.
