Alexandra Eala is set for another stern test on the WTA 1000 stage when her Cincinnati Open main draw campaign gets going this weekend.
Seeded 17th, Eala earned a first-round bye and will face either world no.77 Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania and world no.68 Magda Linette of Poland in the Round of 64 tentatively on Saturday.
The Filipina left-hander has faced both players before. She lost to Ruse in the qualifying round of the US Open in 2024 and has split four matches against Linette.
This will be the 21-year old Filipina’s sixth WTA 1000 hardcourt tournament this year after Qatar, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami, and Toronto. Her best result was in Dubai where she reached the quarterfinals.
The Cincinnati Open is also Eala’s final competition before the US Open that begins on August 30.
