Carlo Paalam settles for silver after a split-decision loss to Japan’s Rui Yamaguchi in the 20th Asian Games boxing men’s 55kg final on Friday at the Nishio Gymnasium in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture.
Three judges scored 29-28 in favor of the hometown bet. The two others, on the other hand, saw the advantage for the Filipino, 29-28 and 30-27.
Paalam’s defeat also meant that the Philippines’ gold medal drought in Asiad boxing continues.
It has been 16 years since the elusive gold landed to the country when Rey Saludar ruled the men’s flyweight at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.
