Limited and unreliable internet connectivity remains a major challenge in remote and underserved communities such as Agsanayan National High School in Guimaras. This digital gap has constrained students’ access to online learning resources, limited teachers in delivering ICT-enabled instruction, and reduced the school community’s ability to fully engage with digital platforms and government online services, leaving many learners at a disadvantage in an increasingly connected education system.
Addressing these gaps is aligned with the directive of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to accelerate digital transformation and ensure that no Filipino is left behind in the digital age. Guided by this vision, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, through DICT Regional Office VI, continues to implement inclusive connectivity initiatives that expand access to digital services in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
In response, DICT Regional Office VI conducted a Bayanihan SIM distribution under the Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP) on February 13, 2026 at Agsanayan National High School. A total of 654 SIM cards were distributed to learners, teachers, and non-teaching staff, each with 25GB of free mobile data per month for one year to support online learning, communication, and access to essential digital services.
To ensure proper implementation, a site validation activity was conducted on June 1, 2026, covering SIM registration, data utilization, and user feedback, and reinforcing coordination between DICT and the LGU of Buenavista, Guimaras in strengthening last-mile connectivity initiatives.
As a result, beneficiaries have experienced improved and more stable internet access, enabling better participation in digital learning, more efficient submission of academic requirements, and faster communication within the school community. Teachers are further supported in integrating online tools, while students gain broader access to blended learning opportunities.
The activity was attended by DICT senior officials, including Undersecretary Leonido J. Pulido III, Assistant Secretaries Christian Mark G. Guingcangco, Pinky T. Jimenez, and June Vincent Manuel S. Gaudan, and was warmly received by School Principal Mark Anthony Habaña and DepEd Guimaras Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Leah Belleza.
“We value hearing directly from our beneficiaries, as their feedback is essential in ensuring that our programs remain responsive, effective, and truly impactful on the ground,” Usec. Pulido said.
DICT Regional Office VI reaffirmed its commitment to sustain and expand digital inclusion initiatives, strengthening connectivity in communities and advancing a more empowered and resilient digital future. ###
