Aabot sa 22 container van na may lamang illicit cigarettes ang nasabat sa ikinasang operasyon ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sa North Harbor, Tondo, Maynila.
Ayon sa BIR, ikinasa ang operasyon sa container yard ng Carlos A. Gothong Lines, Inc. kahapon, June 22 mula sa impormasyon ng NBI sa naturang shipment.
Sa 22 container vans, 10 na ang nasuri at napatunayang walang Internal Revenue Stamps, indikasyong hindi ito nagbabayad ng excise tax. Kabilang sa mga nakumpiskang tatak ang Modern, Dani, Nise Baisha, H&P Aqua Blue, H&P Gold, H&P Red, BRO Red, at D&J Premium.
Giit naman ni BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza, patuloy nilang paiigtingin ang kampanya laban sa illicit cigarette trade at tax evasion.
“We will continue to intensify enforcement operations and work closely with the NBI, the Bureau of Customs, and other partner agencies to stop the illicit cigarette trade. These coordinated efforts are necessary to protect revenues, support legitimate businesses, and uphold compliance with our tax laws,” Commissioner Mendoza.
