EJ Obiena captures first 2026 outdoor gold in Poland

EJ Obiena vaulted to his first gold medal of the 2026 outdoor season at the the Czeslaw Cybulski Memorial in Poznan, Poland.

The world no.13 Filipino pole vaulter cleared 5.72 meters to finish ahead of Owen Heard of Great Britain and Italy’s Matteo Olivery in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event.
Heard and Matteo both registered 5.60 meters but the British pocketed the silver via countback.

Obiena tried to set a new season record of 5.82 meters but failed.

The two-time Olympian now has two podium finishes in outdoor competition after clinching silver at the Flight Circus in Dusseldorf, Germany on June 14.
