Alex Eala will battle American world number 10 Amanda Anisimova in the third round of the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio.
The Filipina star is facing Anisimova for the first time in her career. Their match is set tomorrow 8:30 AM, Philippine Time.
Eala, seeded 17th, won 6-1, 3-0 over Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who retired in the second set due to a foot injury.
Anisimova, meanwhile, eliminated Eala’s friend Zeynep Sonmez, 6-2, 6-3.
The 24-year old Anisimova, who reached as high as number 3 in the WTA rankings, is a four-time WTA titlist and a runner-up in both the US Open and Wimbledon last year.
