Gilas Pilipinas Youth failed to march onto the FIBA U18 Asia Cup semifinals as China proved too much for them with a 117-103 victory in their knockout quarterfinal showdown on Friday at the Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.
The loss also prevented the Philippines from making the 2027 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup as only the semifinalists of the continental event will qualify.
The nationals last made it to the world stage in 2019 after a fourth-place finish in the 2018 Asia Cup.
The Filipinos trailed by as many as 24 points as they couldn’t keep up with the Chinese team’s hot-shooting from three-point territory.
Chog Moral scored 24 points for Gilas.
Yuxiu Chen and Zichao Wang paced China with 23 points apiece.
Gilas will next face either Japan or New Zealand in the classification stage.
