Even though he didn’t bring home a medal from the Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland, EJ Obiena still managed to qualify for the 2027 World Championships.
This is after the Filipino pole vaulter jumped 5.90m and finished fifth in the competition, where world no. 1 Armand Duplantis dominated after setting a new event record of 6.25m.
Obiena’s 5.90 meters mark is his second this season, following the 5.91 meters at Golden Sand in Poland on August 17 for the gold medal.
The tournaments in Europe also serve as training for Obiena as he is set to defend his Asian Games men’s pole vault title.
