Inanunsyo ni BIR Comm. Charlito Martin Mendoza na inihahanda na nila ang pagtanggal ng Value-Added Tax o VAT sa allowable system loss charge na nakikita sa bill ng kuryente ng mga consumer.
Kasunod ito ng resolusyon ng Energy Regulatory Commission o ERC na nag-aalis ng VAT sa system loss charge para makatulong na mapababa ang singil sa kuryente.
Ayon kay BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza, ilalabas ng BIR ang kaukulang Revenue Memorandum Circular 15 araw matapos mailathala ang ERC Resolution No. 26, Series of 2026.
Sa ilalim ng resolusyon, ang system loss charge ay ituturing na government-mandated pass-through cost.
“In simple terms, consumers should not be paying VAT on electricity that never actually reaches their homes or businesses. A pass-through charge is a cost collected from consumers and passed on to the proper recipient. Removing VAT from that charge means a lower amount will be passed on to electricity consumers,” ani Commissioner Mendoza.
Bahagi ito ng direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na repasuhin at linawin ang mga tax rules na maaaring magbigay ng agarang ginhawa sa mga consumer.
