Filipino athletes will not only aim to win medals in the upcoming Asian Games as Olympic berths for the 2028 Los Angeles Games are also up for grabs in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Among the sports offering Olympic qualification opportunities is archery, where gold and silver medalists in individual recurve, as well as the champions in recurve mixed team and compound mixed team can secure Olympic quotas.
Squash will also provide a qualification route, with the men’s and women’s singles champions securing Olympic quotas.
Meanwhile, tennis singles champions in both the men’s and women’s events can earn Olympic qualification quotas, although they must meet the required ranking criteria.
Surfing will also have a continental pathway, with the highest-ranked eligible surfer in each gender earning a continental slot for LA 2028.
The Philippines will send its biggest delegation since 1994 with 443 athletes, who will also look to surpass its previous four-gold medal hauls in the last two editions of the Asian Games in 2018 in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia, and in 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
