Alex Silverio and Raul Angoluan will lead the eight-member Philippine para triathlon team as the host country vies for honors at the 2026 Asia Triathlon Para Championships in Subic this Sunday.
Silverio, who lost his left arm in a motorcycle accident in 2013, returns to the men’s PTS4 division, where he won a silver medal in 2024 in Chiba, Japan. He also competed in the 2025 edition and finished fourth.
Silverio will be joined by Cedei Abellana and Leonardo Acosta in the same class.
Meanwhile, 48-year old Angoluan of Cabagan, Isabela will look to build on his bronze-medal finish in the PTS3 division in 2025. Angoluan lost both arms 31 years ago in an accident while working in the steel industry.
Host Philippines will also field Edison Badillo and Jake Lacaba in the men’s PTS2 division, while visually impaired twin brothers Joshua and Jerome Nelmida will compete in the men’s PTVI category.
However, Triathlon Philippines decided to make it a duathlon event instead due to unfavorable bay conditions after prolonged heavy rains compromised conditions at the swim venue.
The modified course will feature a 5-kilometer run, a 20-kilometer bike leg, and a 2.5-kilometer run. A total of 36 athletes from Japan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, India, Kyrgyzstan, and host Philippines are set to race.
