For the second straight Asian Games, the Philippine sepak takraw team will not go home empty-handed after the women’s doubles team of Abegail Sinogbuhan, Jean Marie Sucalit, and Nelly Jay Salon reached the final on Monday at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnsium.
The Filipinas are already guaranteed of a silver medal following their 15-12, 15-10 victory over Laos in the semifinal.
The Philippines can turn it to a historic first gold if it defeats Vietnam in the final set at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, Manila time.
Meanwhile, the men’s regu team composed of Jason Huerte, Glindel Phori, Jom Lerry Rafael, Reynaldo Asilum Jr., and Ronsited Gabayeronat duplicated the country’s bronze three years ago in Hangzhou, China.
The Nationals could have also reached the gold medal game after starting strong in the first set against Malaysia in the semifinal, but they eventually lost their footing in the next two sets, allowing the Malaysians to walk away with a 15-10, 11-15, 7-15 win.
