Two-time Olympian and SEA Games champion Kayla Sanchez will banner the seven-man Philippine aquatics team in the 20th Asian Games set from September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya, Japan this year.
Sanchez, who won three golds and five silvers at the 33d SEA Games in Thailand last year, will be joined by Xiandi Chua, Teia Isabella Salvino, and Heather White in the women’s swimming.
Philippine Aquatics Inc. executive director Anthony Reyes told Sports Radio 918 that the country is pinning its medal hopes on Sanchez, who will be competing in her second Asiad after her national team debut in the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.
“Hopefully, si Kayla Sanchez will have a good performance. She is prepring for this Asian Games,” Reyes said.
Completing the team are male tankers Logan Wataru Noguchi and Gian Christopher Santos.
Sanchez, Santos, and Noguchi are also set to compete in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California from August 12 to15 as part of their preparations for the quadrennial continental showpiece.
Meanwhile, Ariana Hannah Drake will be the lone representative in the diving competitions.
