Child golfer Kamilla Del Mundo delivered a victory for Team Philippines in the U-swing Mojing Junior World Championship in San Diego, California.
Del Mundo topped the girls’ 9-10 year-old category after tallying a 10-under 206, two strokes ahead of fellow Filipina Mavis Espedido and Canada’s Elizabeth Yang.
The 10-year old Del Mundo, who has won titles in Future Champions Golf (FCG) events and the US Kids Thailand circuit, became the country’s first junior world champion in seven years.
Meanwhile, Zach Guico ended up in joint third in the boys’ 7-8 year-old bracket while Fil-Am Sophia Salonga wound up 5th in the girls’ 13-14 age group.
The U-swing Mojing Junior World Championship is the largest international event in the world, unique for its international representation and cultural diversity. It has gathered 1,250 participants from 56 countries and 42 states.
