Zamboanga’s Rosegie Ramos finished fourth in the highly competitive women’s 53-kilogram weightlifting event on Wednesday at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The 22-year-old Ramos posted a 203-kilogram total, lifting 93kg in the snatch and 110kg in the clean and jerk.
Her total fell short of her submitted 210kg, but Ramos still came away with new national records in both the snatch and clean and jerk.
North Korea’s world champion Hyon Gyong Kang successfully defended her Asian Games title after topping the field with a 223kg total, highlighted by a 99kg snatch and 124kg clean and jerk.
China’s Asian Championships gold medalist Jinlan Zhao took the silver with 218kg, while Thailand’s Olympic bronze medalist Surodchana Kambao secured the bronze with 214kg, including a 95kg snatch and 119kg clean and jerk.
Despite facing a stacked field, Ramos said she remained focused on enjoying the competition and was satisfied with her performance.
“Medyo intense, medyo kabado rin talaga ako sa sobrang lalakas ng kalaban ko pero nag-enjoy din po ako. At the same time, masaya po ako sa naging resulta ng laro ko,” Ramos said.
The Asian Games campaign also served as a chance for Ramos to regain her confidence following a disappointing previous performance.
“Sobrang saya ko na nakalaro po ako dito, new opportunity palagi. Isa rin itong bagong comeback sa sarili ko, kasi last performance medyo hindi naging maganda,” she said.
Ramos dedicated her performance to the people who continued to support her, thanking her family, the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee, and Filipino fans.
